| Getting
to Know One of Our Own - Matt Beatty | | Matt

Matt
Beatty knew what he was looking for when he graduated from law school six years
ago. "I wanted to be a trial attorney who actually tried cases. I was looking
for some mentors who knew their way around the courthouse and I figured that a
smaller firm would provide me with the best opportunity," he says. "After getting
to know the partners at Herman, Howry and Breen (HH&B), LLP, I knew I had found
a great fit." He also admits that going to work for HHB offered much more than
what he bargained for. "Although the learning curve was sharper than I ever imagined,
there was never a shortage of litigation experience to draw upon at the office.
It wasn't long before I was at a level that made me comfortable sitting first
chair at trial." Many
of Matt's peers working for larger firms have not had the opportunity to gain
the type of real trial experience he has enjoyed. "In my six-year career, I have
already tried more than 20 cases to verdict; 15 of which I was the first chair
attorney," he says. "It doesn't matter how many years you have under your belt
if you haven't experienced the realities of a trial by jury." Matt comments that
the other associates at Herman, Howry and Breen have equal trial experience to
his own and agrees that the collective experience of HH&B's lawyers and the partner's
insight provide a rich environment of ideas for achieving their clients' objectives.
"There is no
shortage of past experiences to draw upon when assessing trial strategies. As
a group, our firm's ability to get to the heart of the matter is one of our strengths.
We don't waste our clients' time and money on unimportant issues from an end-result
perspective," Matt comments. "It's a great environment to work in. Each case offers
something completely new to learn about, which is what makes my work so interesting."
