DeShazo Joins the Fast Track of Experienced Trial Attorneys Scott
DeShazo, 33, associate with Herman Howry and Breen, has been surrounded by law
his entire life. A native Austinite, Scott worked in his father's law office.
Before attending law school at Texas Tech University, however, he sought a master's
of Theological Studies degree from Vanderbilt University. It was at Texas Tech
that Scott realized trial work was his calling. "After
graduation, I wanted to try lawsuits. I discovered that most young lawyers never
saw the inside of a courtroom. I was lucky enough to find an opportunity to try
cases at Herman, Howry & Breen," he says. Scott
was invited to become an associate at Herman, Howry and Breen, LLP in June, 2000.
The firm had all the characteristics a young aspiring lawyer could ask for - a
strong reputation for effectiveness, a successful track record, all the lawyers
do trial work and a small environment where it would be impossible to get lost
in the crowd. "At HHB you are surrounded by great lawyers and quality people.
Having the opportunity to be mentored by experienced lawyers is a tremendous advantage,"
comments Scott. "I
have tried so many more cases than my contemporaries working in larger firms.
The learning curve has been intense. It was 'baptism by fire', but it's all been
worth it, given the number of cases I have tried to verdict. The experience is
irreplaceable and the camaraderie and support offered by the other lawyers at
our firm is what makes the environment such a great place to work," he says. Scott
has had the opportunity to work on a variety of areas. At Herman Howry and Breen,
his areas of specialty include employment law, business and real estate litigation,
professional liability and personal injury.
